AUBURN – Courses in business, computers, education and machine tool technology, as well as English and the humanities, mathematics and science and social sciences, will be offered at Central Maine Community College during its first summer session, which will begin on May 17.
Most courses will meet twice a week for three hours and end before the July 4 holiday. Tuition and fees range from $186 to $279. A full list of offerings, including days and times of class meetings and cost, appears on the Web: www.cmcc.edu/student_resources/courses/.
Business courses include Accounting, Understanding Business and Principles of Supervision. Computer courses are offered in computer applications (Introduction to Computer Applications, Integrated Software, Spreadsheets, Database Management) and computer technology (Linux, Networks, Web Development). Fundamental of Educating Students with Special Needs and four machine tool technology courses (Introduction to Lathes, Introduction to Milling, Introduction to Thread Processes and Wok Holding Methods Milling) are also available.
In the humanities, there are courses in college writing, technical writing and business communication, as well as Technology and Society, Critical Thinking and a new offering, Music Appreciation and History.
Social science courses include Psychology and Sociology. There are also courses in physics and several in mathematics including Algebra, Business Math, Geometry and Trigonometry, Pre-calculus and Statistics.
For the first time, the college plans to have a second summer session beginning July 6 with offerings in business, education, English, mathematics, philosophy, psychology and speech. The courses are designed to appeal to students who have just graduated from high school or who are home from college for the summer.
