FARMINGTON – The American Cancer Society has selected Linda Neuschwanger and Amy Pineau to serve as co-chairwomen for this year’s Relay For Life in the Farmington area.

The relay will take place on June 5 at Mount Blue High School. It is the American Cancer Society’s national signature event and is as much an awareness raiser as it is a fund-raiser. Businesses, clubs, churches and families take turns walking in relay fashion while they celebrate the role the American Cancer Society plays in the fight against cancer.

“The vital research and programs of the American Cancer Society are leading the way to eliminating cancer as a major health problem,” said Neuschwanger. “I’m proud to participate in Relay For Life. More funds raised translate into more lives saved.”

Others serving on the relay committee include Jonne Gross, Jeana Hayden, Lee Ireland, Anna Lyon, Reggie McBean, Deanna McClure, Denise Pineau, Sue Upham and Barbara Wrobel.

Walkers, cancer survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), community leaders, team captains and workers are all needed. Teams of cancer-fighting enthusiasts walk around a track relay-style overnight. The teams will gather at 6 a.m. June 5 at Mount Blue High School to show their support.

Volunteers from the Franklin County community are needed to begin planning now for this event. Volunteers are needed to organize and recruit teams, seek community support, underwrite, coordinate logistics, find refreshments and prizes, plan entertainment and lend their support in any way. Those who would like to join the Relay For Life in the Farmington area as a volunteer or team participant can call Neuschwanger at 645-3388.
