LEWISTON – Entres to Health, a new dinner and dialogue series offered jointly by Club 50 and Club W!, will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, in the Lepage Conference Center.
The groups will host area surgeon Dr. Maria Ikossi, who will discuss advancements in health care available to local patients. Ikossi will correct common misconceptions and talk about the community as a health care hub for the Androscoggin region. Surgeons provide high-tech procedures every day in the community.
Ikossi is a thoracic surgeon and specializes in the treatment of disorders and cancers of the chest, lungs and esophagus. She is a graduate of the Washington University School of Medicine and has completed fellowships in oncology, surgical oncology, cancer research and thoracic surgery. Ikossi has practiced surgery in Lewiston/Auburn for 15 years.

May anniversary
POLAND – The Past Presidents Club of the Frank W. Hulett Auxiliary met at the home of Lucille Ray on April 7.
The upcoming celebration of the auxiliary’s 75th anniversary was the main topic. The Auburn VFW Auxiliary is the only auxiliary in the state celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
All members and friends are welcome to help celebrate the milestone. The anniversary dinner will be on May 1 at the post home. Social hour will be from 5 to 6 p.m. with dinner at 6. A dance will follow. Cost is $10 and reservations should be sent to Lucille Ray, 127 Evergreen Drive, Poland, ME 04274 by Wednesday, April 21, or can be obtained at the post home. Historical society
POLAND – The Poland Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at the Old Schoolhouse, 1229 Maine St., next to the Poland Town Office. Members will discuss the open house held on April 17.
Following the business meeting there will be refreshments. Glen Torrey will provide a video presentation. The meetings are returning to the regular meeting time and day of the third Wednesday. The public is welcome.
Rotary speaker
LEWISTON – The speaker at the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club meeting at noon on Thursday, April 22, will be Kerck Kelsey, who will speak on the Norlands and the Washburns, at the Ramada Inn.
Anyone interested in the program or in knowing more about Rotary is invited to attend. The cost of the luncheon is $8.
Group speaker
LEWISTON – The Rev. Jay Turner, director of pastoral care at Central Maine Medical Center, will be the featured speaker at the Tuesday, April 27, meeting of the Central Maine Medical Center Cancer Wellness and Support Group.
Turner will discuss “Spirituality and Hope” for people whose lives are touched by cancer.
The group is open to people living with cancer, as well as their spouses/partners, family members and caregivers. It meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Isaacson Rooms (conference rooms F and G) in the 12 High Street Medical Office Building.

New session
LEWISTON – Guidance Through Grief, a six-week education and support group for grieving adults, will begin a new session on Tuesday, April 27. The group will meet on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Central Maine Medical Center.
Participation is free, but those wishing to attend must first register by calling Kerry Irish at 795-7118 or Terrance Cronin at 777-7740.
The group is jointly sponsored by CMMC and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.
Birthing hypnosis
LEWISTON – Central Maine Medical Center’s Special Delivery Family Birthing Center will offer a self-hypnosis class room 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 29.
The instructor will be Valerie St.Clair, RN, a certified hypnotherapist.
Self-hypnosis can help with relaxation and stress relief, goal attainment, public speaking, skill improvement, test talking, personal growth and phobias.
The program will be presented in the Isaacson Rooms (Rooms F and G) in the 12 High Street Medical Office Building adjacent to Central Maine Medical Center.
