AUBURN – High school students and their parents were honored at the March meeting of the Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, held at the Court Street Baptist Church.
The recipients were selected by their fellow students and faculty to receive the DAR Good Citizen award and a Patriotism Medal award for outstanding qualities in leadership, dependability, service, patriotism, honesty and courage.
The Good Citizens were presented pins and certificates and are eligible to compete for a scholarship presented by the National DAR.
The Patriotism Medal winners received engraved bronze medals, certificates and lapel pins. The award is given on a local level through the National Defense program. The committee each year gives an ROTC medal to a Lewiston High School senior.
Leslie Wight, chapter regent, conducted a brief meeting. Mary Jane Densmore, chapter chairwoman of the Good Citizen Program, greeted the guests and presented the awards to the parents who, in turn, presented to their children. Each student spoke of their high school activities and future plans.
The Good Citizens are:
Buckfield Junior-Senior High School, Leslie Workman, daughter of Geoffrey and Sharon Workman of Buckfield. Workman was unable to attend the event.
Edward Little High School, Alyson Keene, daughter of Eugene and Kathleen Keene of Auburn.
Leavitt Area High School, Vanessa Fereshetian, daughter of Albert Fereshetian of Turner. Vanessa’s father received the award when he was in high school.
Lewiston High School, Nicole Willey, daughter of Bud and Jennifer Willey of Lewiston. She was unable to attend.
Carol McNeill, chapter chairwoman of the DAR National Defense Committee, presented the Good Citizenship Medal Awards. The winners are:
Buckfield Junior-Senior High School, Lyndsay Gammon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gammon of Buckfield. She was unable to attend.
Edward Little High School, Adam Platz, son of Thomas and Paula Platz of Auburn.
Leavitt Area High School, Cassandra Kirkland, daughter of Allen and Kathryn Kirkland of Greene. She was unable to attend.
Lewiston High School, Tarrah Bowen, daughter of David and Renee Bowen of Lewiston. She was unable to attend.
The guest speaker was Dennis Stires, a local historian. He spoke of families of Livermore after the Revolutionary War and was dressed for the period.
Refreshments were served by Frances Jordan, Arlene Dube, Carol MacNeill and Beverly Robbins.
