LOCKE MILLS – The Greenwood Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at the historical building. Gil Whitman of Bryant Pond will give a program on metal sculpture. Everyone is welcome.

School events

WEST PARIS – The Agnes L. Gray and Legion Memorial School grades one and two will go to the Kindekonzert at the Oxford school on April 13. That evening there will be a parent involvement program from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Agnes L. Gray School. Everyone is invited.

The Agnes L. Gray School 21st Century After-School Program for grades one through began March 29. They meet from 3:05 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at the school. There are many good activities for young people. For more information, call 674-2332.

The kindergarten through grade six students at the Legion Memorial and Agnes L. Gray schools will participate in a silent Reading program from 1:30 to 1:50 p.m. every Thursday.

Grange program

WEST PARIS – West Paris Grange 298 will present its community citizen open house program at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15.

Book group

WEST PARIS – The Book Discussion Group of Whitman Memorial Library will have Bob Keniston as speaker at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 8.

Keniston learned to turn wood as a child and has made countless items, including plates, vases, bowls and fountain pens. A collector of woods, including many rare species, he uses the natural color of woods to create patterns.

The public is invited.

Aid for servicemen

WEST PARIS – The Agnes L. Gray School is joining the drive to send packages to the five local servicemen serving in Iraq.

The West Paris Girl Scouts of Kennebec Council 1486 will also make a donation to the Project Care package and will send a series of postcards and a poster of local interest.

The group supporting the servicemen met March 28 and stuffed boxes with toiletries to send. Many serving in Iraq are looking for pen pals. Those interested should call Emily Robinson at 674-2708.

In April the shipment will be large manila envelopes. For this the group would like donations of cards, letters, photographs, sporting type magazines and puzzle books.

In May they will send food boxes. Limit donations to small items such as herbal tea, individual packages of powdered drink, granola bars, dried fruit, nuts, hard candy, gum, dried soup. For more information, call Nancy at 674-2936 or Sylvia at 674-2114.
