AUBURN – Take a weekday break for an evening of mystery and romance to see the film “Snow Falling on Cedars” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 1, at the Great Falls School, Academy Street.
Film critics describe “Snow Falling on Cedars” as a riveting tale of mystery that is hypnotic, mesmerizing and inspiring. It is a murder trial story set in the 1950s on a quite island in the Puget Sound.
The free presentation is part of the One Book/One Community: L-A Reads! community-wide reading program and is made possible by Auburn’s Parks and Recreation Department.
Rotary speaker
LEWISTON – The speaker at the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club meeting at noon on Thursday, April l, will be Bill McKenna of the Augusta Rotary Club.
McKenna is assistant district governor for Rotary District 7790. He will give a slide presentation of his motorcycle tour of Australia last summer to raise awareness of the Rotary International Polio Plus immunization program.
The club will meet at the Ramada Inn, and anyone interested in the program or in knowing more about Rotary is invited to attend. The cost of the luncheon is $8.
Registration
LITCHFIELD – Kindergarten registration will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, at Libby-Tozier School. Children must be 5 by Oct. 15 to be eligible for the kindergarten 2004/2005 school year.
Parents should bring the following records: state birth certificate, proof of residence, copy of immunization records and a copy of the current physical.

Applications
WALES – The Lil’ Raiders Preschool Program is taking applications for 3- to 5-year-olds who would like to attend the program on April 29 through June 7. Interested parents or other caregivers who would like more information or an application can call 375-4950, ext. 133.
Enrollment is limited to children who are toilet-trained and want a positive experience interacting with other children. Activities will include a variety of hands-on opportunities for preschoolers.
Parenting program
BRUNSWICK – A parenting education program, “Caught in the Middle,” is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at the Brunswick High School library. The parenting education program is for separating or divorcing parents.
Presented by an experienced educator and counselor, the four-hour workshop will address the following issues: Why is divorce difficult for children? How do children at different ages react to divorce? How can parents best help their children adjust to divorce?
Participants will receive a manual, which covers workshop topics and includes a resource guide. The fee is $25 in advance, $40 day of the workshop. For more information or to register, call 837-4893.
