LEWISTON – Beacon Hospice of Lewiston will offer its next free volunteer hospice training from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 29, at Heritage Rehabilitation and Living Center in Winthrop. A light supper will be provided.
Beacon’s volunteer training program is a comprehensive, 21-hour exploration of the hospice experience and consists of seven three-hour sessions. A wide range of topics will be discussed, including an introduction to hospice, family dynamics, communication, spirituality, pain management, and issues of death, dying, grief, loss and transition.
Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive certificates and be prepared to work with Beacon Hospice, their families and patients.
“Beacon offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities – from working with patients and families to phone calling and administrative experiences,” said Volunteer Coordinator Donna Rousseau. “The key goal is to make the hospice volunteer experience positive for everyone – our patients and their families as well as our volunteers.”
Anyone interested in participating in the training may contact Lisa Fitzsimmons at 377-9965 or Donna Rousseau at Beacon Hospice, 754-4242.
