LEWISTON – A five-part series addressing common issues of caring for an aging parent will take place at St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.

Beginning Monday, March 8, the series will run for five weeks from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays, hosted by Club 50 and Community Clinical Services’ Employee Assistance Program.

March 8, Session 1: “The Educated Caregiver: Coping Skills,” In the video, those attending will meet others who know what they’re going through – and who share their experiences, fears, feelings, insights and advice. Presented by Pam Averill from Seniors Plus.

March 15, Session 2: “Putting the Puzzle Together” is designed to help plan for the caregiver role before a crisis occurs. The session provides tools to understand options and offers information on community resources, living alternatives and long-term payment options. Presented by Pam Averill from SeniorsPlus.

March 22, Session 3: “Medicare 101: Navigating the Maze” focuses on the basics of Medicare, what is covered and what is not, as well as the impact of the proposed Medicare legislation. Presented by Anita Wiles of SeniorsPlus.

March 29, Session 4: “Medicare Part 2” continues with the role of the retiree health benefits and supplemental insurance in relationship to the original Medicare plan. Benefits, eligibility and application processes for MaineCare and the Medicare Buy-in Programs will also be discussed. Presented by Anita Wiles of SeniorsPlus.

April 5, Session 5: “Aging: A Road Map of Legal Issues” will cover health care advance directives, durable powers of attorney, guardianship/conservatorship and other related information. Presented by Kathleen Kienitz, PA, estate planning and elder law.
