TOPSHAM — Midcoast Youth Theater will welcome the holiday season with its multigenerational production of “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas: The Musical.”
Curtain will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3-5; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at Mt. Ararat High School.
This Broadway stage adaptation of the 1954 movie is filled with such memorable Irving Berlin songs as “Blue Skies,” “I Love a Piano,” “How Deep Is the Ocean” and the perennial favorite “White Christmas.”
Set in the days after World War II, the story centers on Bob Wallace and Phil Davis, two army buddies with a song-and-dance act, portrayed by Midcoast residents John Rankins and Newton Dubbs. In pursuit of romance, the two men land on the trail of a duo of singing sisters, Betty and Judy Haynes, played by Tracy Kapocius and Linda Gardiner. The plot follows the foursome from the Big Apple to Vermont, where Bob and Phil’s former general, Henry Waverly (Dennis Pelletier) now runs an inn.
Supporting characters include Martha Watson (Pam Tondreau), the concierge at the inn; Susan Waverly (Amberly Shea), the general’s granddaughter, whose ambition is to be a Broadway star; Ralph Sheldrake (Brian Joyce), a fast-talking New York producer; and big-city showgirls Rita (Mary Montalvo) and Rhoda (Mackenzie Bowerman). A host of singing and dancing ensemble members, ranging from the youngest of tap dancers to parents and even grandparents, round out the cast.
Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and $5 for children ages 5 to 8. Tickets may be purchased in advance at www.youth-theater.org.
