NORTH WATERFORD – The Rev. George Frobig announces a new time for Sunday school at the North Waterford Congregational Church. Beginning Sunday, Feb. 8, the school will start at 9:30 a.m. Area children are invited to attend and join Sunday School teachers Vicki Fox and Jennifer Carter in interesting activities, lessons and music. Worship service is at 10 a.m.

Church speaker

PARIS – Sharon Bouchard will be the speaker at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris, Sunday, Feb. 8. The organ voluntaries will begin at 9:50 a.m. and the service will begin at 10. Bouchard’s sermon will be drawn from life experiences and will be titled, “Lessons From a Baby Boomer.” Music will be by Renee Wales, flutist, and Forest Perkins, organist. Sunday School will be in session. The coffee hour will follow in Good Cheer Hall. Everyone is welcome.

Ski event

CONWAY, N. H. – More than 175 skiers and snowboarders of all ages and abilities are expected to participate in the American Cancer Society’s 27th annual Race to Beat Cancer Sunday, Feb. 8, at Cranmore Mountain Resort in North Conway. Registration will continue from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. on Feb. 8 at the North Base Lodge. Last year nearly $17,000 was raised. Heywood Club

NORWAY – The Heywood Club of Norway will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at the home of Jamie Mowatt on Crockett Ridge. Bring an item wrapped for the auction with the proceeds going to the scholarship fund.

Writing workshop

BRIDGTON – Bridgton Public Library will offer a writing workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, for beginners and for practiced writers. The workshop will be led by Joan Hunter, director of Fifth House Lodge Writer’s Retreat.

Hunter has been a writing coach and workshop leader for more than a dozen years. In addition to her private teaching, she has taught at Maine College of Art, the universities of Southern Maine, New Hampshire and New England, and at the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance.

This free program requires preregistration. Sign-up is at the main circulation desk. Snow date will be at the same time on Saturday, Feb. 28. Materials will be provided, but bring a pen.
