The organization is accepting applications. Crews plan to work on six houses this year.
LEWISTON – Rebuilding Together Lewiston-Auburn is a local grassroots organization dedicated to making improvements to homes in the Lewiston-Auburn area.
The agency is accepting applications from families who are faced with living in uncomfortable and sometimes unsafe conditions because they cannot afford to pay for necessary repairs to their homes.
At a time when the cost of food and medications must take precedence over fixing leaking roofs, adding insulation or repairing an unsafe staircase, the group’s skilled workforce is gearing up for this year’s projects. Six homes will be revitalized in 2004.
With the goal of helping families continue to live safely in their own homes, the agency collaborates with a multitude of community organizations, including Bates College, local government, financial institutions, businesses and volunteers. Projects can include anything from replacing inferior plumbing, installing an exterior ramp to updating an inadequate kitchen. All challenges will be considered.
To apply, homeowners are invited to pick up an application at the agency’s office at 203 College St. -either in the office or from the outside mailbox. Application deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 10, and work will begin in April.
Rebuilding Together Lewiston-Auburn is affiliated with the National Rebuilding initiative in Washington, D.C.
