LEWISTON – Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care announces that Marlena Dietrich, a senior at Oak Hill High School in Wales, has been chosen to represent Region 1 Head Start (representing the New England states) as the nominee for the Phyllis J. Jones Memorial Scholarship for Head Start graduates.
Her name will be sent to the National Head Start Association and a committee will review all applications submitted.
A letter announcing the winner will be forwarded to the appropriate state/regional presidents and the winner’s program director by Feb. 20.
Dietrich plans to pursue a nursing career and will attend the University of Southern Maine in the fall. She is the daughter of Theresa Dietrich of Sabattus.
All Head Start programs are free to eligible children, and full-day child care services are available on a sliding fee scale for parents who are working, in school or participating in job training.
