AUBURN – Music Together of Lewiston/Auburn will hold an informational open house from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the United Methodist Church of Auburn. Young children and their parents are invited to attend for a taste of music-making and holiday fun.

Music Together is a national program with independent centers throughout Maine and the United States. Music Together of Lewiston/Auburn offers music classes for children ages newborn to 4 years. Classes, which are held once a week for 10 weeks, are 45 minutes.

The session is based on a collection of songs, which each family receives as part of the registration fee, in the form of a CD, tape and illustrated songbook. Each weekly class involves a flow of songs, nursery rhymes, instrumental jam sessions, finger-plays and movement activities. Classes offer opportunities for children to share their own song and movement ideas.

Teachers and directors Sue Barre and Melissa Sundell received their training in early childhood music through the Center for Music and Young Children in Princeton, N.J.

Barre holds a degree in music education from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and has 12 years of teaching experience in the Turner and Freeport public schools.

Sundell has a background as a foreign language instructor, with music experience as an amateur vocalist and pianist. Both are mothers whose children have benefited from the program.

The winter session for Music Together of Lewiston/Auburn will begin Jan. 5. Classes will be offered on Monday and Friday mornings at the United Methodist of Auburn. For information or registration, contact Barre at 795-0755 or [email protected].
