FARMINGTON – A potluck supper preceded the Nov. 6 meeting of Farmington Emblem Club No. 460.
Before opening of the meeting, Farmington Elks Past Exalted Ruler John Kennedy presented President Claudette Merchant with two checks. Profits were shared by the Farmington Elks and Emblem club from the food booth at the Farmington Fair in September and from the music show at the Elks lodge in October.
Merchant opened the meeting and the charter was draped in memory of the club’s departed members.
Three new members were initiated, Amber Walker, Katlyn Storer and Terri Oliver. There were 45 members attending the meeting, 79 absent, two reinstated and three new members for a total of 129 members.
Community service chairwoman Nancy Chase announced that the club will provide a Thanksgiving dinner at the Elks lodge for area nursing home patients on Sunday, Nov. 23. The club voted to donate money to a needy family in the area, and for Jean Corcoran to take to the Ricky Craven snowmobile “ride-in” where the money brought in at this event will go to different children’s funds.
Quinnale Kinsey, chairwoman for the Nov. 1 and Dec. 6 craft fairs, gave a report on the November fair. At the December craft fair she will have a “chinese auction.” She got volunteers who will make sandwiches, bake foods and work at the December fair.
Shannon Smith reported on the banquet held recently at the Mt. Blue cafeteria for the little league cheerleaders. These cheerleaders are sponsored by Farmington Emblem Club. She gave a report on the harvest dance that the club sponsored in October. Those attending enjoyed a boiled dinner before the dance and later danced to the music of the Travelers. The club will sponsor a similar dance on Oct. 31, 2004, which will be a Halloween dance. A Valentine’s dance will be held at the Elks lodge in February with a group called The Legends.
There are still tickets available for the quilt and pillow raffle to be drawn at the Dec. 4 meeting/Christmas party of the club. These may be purchased from Emblem members.
It was voted to give $100 to the Farmington/Wilton winterfest, $50 to the district court foster parent’s children’s party, $100 toward a Mt. Blue High School girl who belongs to a group of girls who will be singing at Carnegie Hall, and $100 to a girl raising money to go to a cheerleading clinic in Hawaii.
Members will be asked to help with a foster children’s Christmas party to be held in Turner on Dec. 13.
