AUBURN – The Danville Union Church Fellowship will hold its annual holiday fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Grange hall. A lunch will be served and there will be crafts, flea market and food.

Canado society

AUBURN – The local chapter of the Association Canado-Americaine will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at Heritage Court Hall, 71 Spring St. Members and guests are invited. Social games are held after meetings.

Fidelity meeting

AUBURN – Fidelity Rebekah Lodge 4 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Odd Fellows Hall, 50 Elm St. A collection for the needy will take place. All Rebekah members are invited. Refreshments, provided by Marion Collins, will be served at 6:30.

Club program

AUBURN – The Androscoggin Past Noble Grands Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Odd Fellows Hall, 50 Elm St. Members will observe Thanksgiving, and Bertha Kimball will present a program. A potluck supper will be served at 6:30 by Supper Committee members Cathy Hunnewell, Pearl Roberts and Gail Morgan. All Rebekah past noble grands are welcome.

Musical tribute

LEWISTON – The L & A Veterans Council will sponsor its annual “Musical Tribute to Veterans” at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Lewiston Armory, while at 1:30 p.m. they will unveil two new stones with names of veterans and those in the military at the Veterans Park on Main Street.

The annual tribute is free and is accessible to wheelchairs by elevator. It is a two-hour program and everyone is welcome. For more information, call 786-2305.

MINOT – The Minot Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Minot Town Office. Eleanor Currier of Jay will speak on the flooding in the town of Flagstaff. Prof. Douglas Hodgkins spoke at a recent meeting on “Managing the Poor in Lewiston Before 1850.”

American Concrete has donated a well cover to be used on the well at the William Ladd Homestead property where work is continuing on preparing the land for a floral park. Roland and Noella Hemond received the Maine State Grange Farm Family Award and were honored at the Maine State Grange session. He is a member of Minot Center Grange 266. President Hester Gilpatric named the same committees for the 2003-2004 year and added three names to the nomination committee, Donna Berry, Nancy Conant and Ruth Gammon.

OES visitation

WALES – An official visitation of Lakeside Chapter, OES, was conducted by Norma Crabtree, grand conductress, on Oct. 14. Phyllis Hall presented the chapter with five knitted shoulder capes for the Star Points. She was given a hand-embroidered tea cloth commemorating many years of service, including six years as worthy matron, two years as district deputy grand matron, and two years as grand representative of Massachusetts in Maine.

Harriet Stretton, past matron of Pine Cone Chapter, and William Stretton, past patron of Pine Cone Chapter and also worthy grand patron, both received honorary memberships to Lakeside Chapter.

Lakeside Chapter’s next meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Wales Grange Hall. The theme will be Thanksgiving. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.

Firefighters

MONMOUTH – The Androscoggin County Firefighters Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Monmouth Fire Station.

DAR speaker

AUBURN – Mary Dillingham Chapter, DAR, will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Togus Veterans’ Hospital, Augusta. Guest speaker will be recreation director Teri Olson. Members should take a lunch and wrapped Christmas gifts for veterans. Prospectives are invited.

Breastfeeding

Civil War talk

BRUNSWICK – Professor Elizabeth Leonard, John J. and Cornelia V. Gibson associate professor of history at Colby College, will speak at the Chamberlain Civil War Round Table at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Brunswick Junior High School cafeteria.

She will talk about her upcoming book, ”Lincoln’s Avengers: Justice, Revenge and Reunion after the Civil War.” There will be a discussion of the assassination of Lincoln, the federal government’s response to that assassination and the ways in which the responses of key figures in the government mirrored their visions of what Reconstruction itself should look like.

The public is invited.

Bridge news

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Nov. 4 at the Multi-Puupose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Fred Letourneau andRosemarie Goodwin; second, Jeanine Kivus and Martine Begert; third, Nancy Farmer and Marta Clements; fourth, Maude Abbott and Claire Lyons; fifth, Alberta Turner and Lucille Theriault. Flight B winners were: first, Nancy Farmer and Marta Clements; second, Charles Bartlett and Allie Boyer.

The center will be closed next Tuesday, Nov. 11.
