DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Church of the Nazarene, which was organized in 1958, will be celebrating the second of two special 45th anniversary services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the church on Weld Street.
Several former pastors and members of the church plan to take part in the service by testimony or musical selections. The service will be followed by a social time and light lunch.
The first pastor and founder of the church, The Rev. Donald Arey, who now lives in New Hampshire, plans to attend. He organized services first at the American Legion Hall, followed by the Grange hall and in the basement of the church until it was completed. Several of those who worked on the construction of the building are still worshipping at the church.
The Rev. Cecil Jones, district superintendent of Maine’s Nazarene Churches, led the first of the two anniversary services on Oct. 5. In the beginning years, there was a core group of 10 to 15 teenagers who played an important part in the church’s work. Several of those returned and reminisced over their part at the time. Several have become pastors or pastor’s wives. Jones and his wife were a part of that group.
All are welcome to attend the anniversary activities or regular services at the church.
