PARIS – The fall college admissions workshop for all seniors and their parents will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School’s Forum.

John Parkman, coordinator of Counseling Services for SAD 17, and director of guidance at the school, said all parents and students from any grade level are welcome, but the focus of the first evening in a series of college life workshops will be geared to current seniors and their parents or guardians.

Guest speakers will be Jonathan Henry, dean of admissions from the University of Maine at Orono, and Greg Knight, a local parent who went through the process of applying to colleges with his child.

Parkman said “Henry has spearheaded one of the largest increases in admissions the university has seen in its history, and his expertise in admissions will be a valuable and timely plus for our students and parents.”

Knight will talk about the harrowing experience of applying to colleges. Parksman said, “This is one of the first times in my career I’ve invited a parent to share his experiences first hand, and I really don’t know why I didn’t think of doing this before. It will be a great opportunity for parents to hear what it’s like from one of their own.”

This workshop opens a series of Wednesday night presentations with featured guests on the process of admissions, financial aid and college life. More information can be obtained by contacting the Adult Education office at 743-8842 or check out the fall learning opportunities catalog.
