OTISFIELD – A workshop about maintenance of private gravel roads will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at the Otisfield Town Hall.
Speakers include Phil Curtis from the Maine Local Roads Center, and Clyde Walton, a licensed site evaluator and member of the Congress of Lakes Association. The two will discuss gravel road construction and maintenance, as well as controlling erosion in order to save money and protect water quality.
An afternoon session will feature training on the use of the Front Runner, a grader-rake appropriate for use in road surface management. Participants who are trained in use of the Front Runner will have the opportunity to use it on their own private roads at a later date, and at no cost.
Individuals interested in attending the workshop should call the Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District at 753-9400, extension 400.
Registration must be received by Friday, Oct. 3. Cost for the workshop is $15.
