LEWISTON – Katie St. Pierre attended a Girl Scout Wider Opportunities Program in St. George recently.
The daughter of Denis and Therese St. Pierre of Lewiston, she has been an active member of the Girl Scouts for 10 years. In addition to her involvement with the Girl Scouts, St. Pierre’s activities include varsity math team, yearbook, Drama Club, Key Club, cheering, piano and volunteering for a local soup kitchen.
St. Pierre attended a 14-day program sailing the Penobscot Bay with Hurricane Island Outward Bound. She learned to navigate a sailboat using charts, steer, set up, run and dismantle sails. She also participated in a ropes course. In order to attend the program, she went through an application and interview process then raised the funds to cover the costs.
The Wider Opportunities Program is a travel and study program available to Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts, offering them a chance to test their skills and talents, have fun and build memories as they discover the power and strength of girls together.
