LEWISTON – Central Maine Medical Center’s Senior Health and Wellness Services will offer the following programs to the region’s older residents during August:
Fit and Fun: Low impact aerobics, strengthening, stretching and flexibility. The class will be offered from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. A fee will be charged.
People with Arthritis Can Exercise or Personal Fitness: Program includes a one-on-one evaluation and exercises designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of motion. The class will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A fee will be charged. Call for class times.
The Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute will sponsor a free ScoreKeeper cardiac risk assessment screening by appointment on Tuesday, Aug. 10. Integral to the process is a software program that creates a personalized report about an individual’s health status. Information provided by ScoreKeeper, if used effectively, can help an individual improve their cardiovascular health. Free. By appointment only.
“Don’t Be a Victim of Fraud” will be the subject of a talk from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18. Ken Estes of the American Association of Retired Persons will provide information about how to avoid becoming a victim of fraud. Free.
“Fad Diets” will be the topic of a presentation set for 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31. Registered nurse Barbara Aliberti will discuss the risks and benefits of various popular diet plans. She will discuss some basic tenets of healthy eating. Free.
Free blood pressure screenings will be offered on a walk-in basis on Mondays between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. and on Wednesdays between 9:30 and 11 a.m.
