Idexx Laboratories Inc. of Westbrook has made its debut on Fortune magazine’s Fortune 1000 list of the largest U.S. publicly traded companies, ranked by annual revenue.

Fortune announced its 2018 list on Monday. Idexx, which produces veterinary diagnostic testing equipment, software and other products, ranked No. 961 based on its 2017 revenue of $1.97 billion.

It is Idexx’s first appearance on the list. No other Maine-based company has made the Fortune 1000 list in recent years.

Idexx employs about 3,000 in Westbrook and 8,000 worldwide. It is Maine’s sole representative in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index, a stock index of 500 publicly traded companies that is considered a leading bellwether of the U.S. economy.

Idexx recently began a $62 million expansion that will add a new multi-level, 135,000-square-foot building to the company’s existing headquarters complex in Westbrook.
