SABATTUS – Young Marines graduated in ceremonies at the Sabattus Town Hall recently.

The Young Marines were founded to promote the mental, mortal and physical development of young Americans. Activities include parades, close order drill, camping, field trips, athletics and community and veteran services. Some of the activities and schools offered include leadership, basic, advanced and senior, drill and ceremonies, Civil War adventure, scuba school and space academy.

Before the Young Marines can attend activities or schools they must go through recruit training. The training calls for 26 hours of military-style boot camp and runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for three Saturdays, then the first and third Saturdays for the remainder of the regulation hours. All training is held at the old Sabattus Town Hall.

The cost is $125 for the first year and $25 every year after, covering all manuals, uniforms and expenses. The program is for youths ages 10 through 18, and there are no limitations on physical or mental disabilities. The first 35 applicants will be selected. Boot camp will start in mid October.
