LEWISTON – Flag Day, hosted by the Longley-Dionne Post 9150, Veterans of Foreign Wars, was held on the last day of classes at the James B. Longley School.
The students marched with flag in hand to the flag pole outside the school. First, everyone recited the “Pledge of Allegiance.” Principal Thomas Hood, opened the program with the assembly singing “The Star Spangled Banner.”
Hood gave remarks on the significance of Flag Day. He introduced the winners of essays written on Flag Day and patriotism and what it meant to them. The closing assembly sang “God Bless America.”
The three essay winners were: fourth grade, Haley Fletcher and Keisha Lavoie; sixth grade, Andrea Aube.
