LEWISTON – Douglas E. Taylor, director of the Jesus Party, invites the community to attend an evening honoring James and Patti Downs, youth pastors and inner-city outreach workers with the Salvation Army of Lewiston, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at 291 Bates St.

The Downs have been married for 14 years and have two children, Samuel and Sarah. The family joined the Salvation Army in 1997. They underwent ministry training provided by mentors Captains John and Margaret Bennett.

The Downs have sold their home and will leave the area in September to attend a school for officer’s training through the Salvation Army in Suffern, N.Y.

The Downs will minister in testimony and song as well as show a video, Altars in the Street.” The drama, filmed on location in some of American’s roughest streets, tells the story of two children from different backgrounds. To one of these children, the intervention of people who dare to be involved means all the difference between life and death.

Taylor will honor the Downs family with a plaque for their commitment to inner-city youth, and a love offering will be collected to help the family relocate. The event will be held at Jesus Party headquarters. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call Sonia Taylor at 786-5668.
