GEORGETOWN – The descendants of Jay and Marion Walker of Sabattus recently held their 33rd annual family reunion at Reid State Park.

The nine children of Jay and Marion Walker were all in attendance: Helen Morrill of Auburn, Phyllis Splain of Sabattus, Priscilla Fletcher of Winslow, Jean Tarr of Enfield Conn., Jane Sloat of Auburn, Jay Walker Jr. of Fairfield, Barbara Lyman of Greene, Robert Walker of Jefferson and John Walker of Sabattus. There were a total of 97 people at the reunion.

Those attending played a variety of games. The reunion committee made a cookbook of old family recipes and held a 50/50 drawing to help fund next year’s reunion. A welcome address was given by Jane Sloat, who announced the activities that would be held during the day.

The oldest member in attendance was Helen Morrill; youngest, Brianna Fletcher, 10-weeks, daughter of Richard and Tamara Fletcher and granddaughter of Priscilla and Richard Fletcher. Traveling the farthest wre Pamela and Richard Perron and family from Fort Drum, N.Y., where Perron has been stationed in the Army.

Reed gathering

HEBRON – The descendants of Mary Elizabeth Stewart and Charles Franklin Reed held their annual reunion on Aug. 3 at the home of Rich and Jane Hatch with 52 family members and four guests present.

After a picnic lunch, the business meeting was held with Joyce Poole, president, presiding. There was a moment of silence in memory of two departed members, Reginald Rose and Joseph Clinton.

It was voted to held next year’s reunion on the second Sunday in August with Rich and Jane again hosting the event. Thanks were extended to them for hosting this year’s reunion.

Officers elected for the ensuing year were: president, Joyce Poole; first vice president, Jeannine Wilkins; second vice president, Doris Girardin; treasurer, Shirley Hatch; secretary, Norma Gilbert. Recognition was given to the youngest member present, Ashley Hatch, and to the oldest member, Winifred Rose.

It was voted to donate to the Canton Historical Society a dress from the early 1920s belonging to Sarah Reed, as well as a picture of Sarah wearing the dress.

Before the meeting adjourned, family members recalled the names of the Reed descendants, numbering nine, and the total descendants of these nine, which was 31. It was also mentioned that Mary Elizabeth Stewart was born in Nova Scotia.

Following the meeting, a social time was held along with games and a pie-eating contest.

Members attended from Auburn, Lewiston, Poland, Livermore, Hebron, Livermore Falls, Wales, Buxton, Buckfield, Jay, Lisbon, Canton and Swampscott and Danvers, Mass.
