LEWISTON – Jake Sasseville, whose 13-year-old brother, Alex, died of complications relating to leukemia in 2003, has been named chairman of advertising and publicity for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program Walk 2004 being held on Sept. 18.
Since his brother’s death, Sasseville has made it a personal and even public priority to fight the disease as well as help the families that continue to suffer with the illness.
The walk takes place at eight different places around the state and participants have a choice of walking in the following areas: Portland, Payson Park; Rockland, South School on Broadway; Waterville, Boys and Girls Club, YMCA; Rumford, Mexico Town Hall; Lewiston-Auburn, Lewiston Shaw’s; Newport/Dexter, Dexter High School; Augusta, Capital Park Trail; Biddeford, Fairfield School, Saco.
The walk is approximately three miles long and is a way to raise funds which help the Maine Children’s Cancer Program in Scarborough. Alex was often at the Scarborough clinic, and because of the sponsorship from area businesses, all the money raised from the walk goes back to the children and their families in Maine. Administrative costs are covered in advance.
To participate in the walk, send donations to Maine Children’s Cancer Program, Campus Drive, Unit 107, Scarborough, ME 04074, Attn: Walk. Anyone interested in a pamphlet on the walk can contact Sasseville at 784-0111 or e-mail him at [email protected].
