WILTON – Wilton Free Public Library will end its summer reading program with fun events. More than 100 children and adults have become star readers this summer, together reading more than 2,000 hours.

A Nutrition Celebration with Doris Cushman of Franklin County Cooperative Extension will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5. Children will meet veggie friends and make a healthy snack. Al Bersbach will be the guest reader for Lunch and Read at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 6. Bring a sandwich and hear about his work building an observatory for UMF.

All outstanding bookworm cards should be passed in to the library on Wednesday, Aug. 6. No cards will be accepted after Wednesday. The seven-week program will conclude with an awards ceremony and make your-own parfait buffet from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday. All participants will receive a certificate and all attendees will walk away with a prize.

The Wilton Free Public Library is located at 6 Goodspeed St. The library is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, noon to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

Youth concert

FARMINGTON – Eastward Sparrows Song Youth Choir will present a choral concert, “More Than Solos,” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Trinity United Methodist Church on Routes 2 and 27. Eastward Players is made up of young people from various backgrounds and talents. A freewill offering will be taken.

B-day celebration

NEW VINEYARD – Mountain View Bible Church will celebrate its 175th year on Sunday, Aug. 10. Worship service will be held at 10:30 a.m. with guest speaker, the Rev. Carl Boutilier of Freeport, Ohio.

Boutilier, his wife, Joan, and children came as the second resident pastor in 1972, under the auspices of Village Missions of Missouri. He graduated from Elohim Bible Institute in Castile, N.Y., in 1970. He attended Grand Rapids Baptist College Seminary in Michigan and was ordained in 1975.

In addition to the guest speaker, a musical program is planned and the service will be followed by a luncheon in the new church addition. All are welcome.

FARMINGTON FALLS – After a 46-year absence, the Rev. John Tolman has returned as pastor of the Union Baptist Church. Homecoming Sunday was held July 20 with a number of friends joining in worship. David Hovey, who has been a member of the Youth Fellowship during Tolman’s earlier tenure there, returned to provide music.

The Rev. Clint Ziemer will be the preacher at the 9 a.m. service on Sunday, Aug. 10. Ziemer is Tolman’s son-in-law, married to Villa. They are Four Square Gospel trained and their son, 12-year-old Jonathan, will bring special music for the service.

Marnie Voter will be the guest soloist at the 9 a.m. service on Aug. 17. All are welcome. The church brings a 6:30 p.m. service of hymns and worship to the Pinewood Terrace family each Sunday.

Lawn fair

STRONG – The Strong United Methodist Church is planning a lawn fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, with a breakfast available at 7 a.m. There will be tables of plants, baked goods, fudge, white elephant, gifts, Rada cutlery and crafts. Tables are available for craft people to rent. There will also be face painting and a petting zoo for the children. Hot dogs, beans, coleslaw and drinks will be available for lunch.

Youth rally

STRONG – A summer convention will be held Aug. 8 to 10 at Living Waters Assembly of God Church. The weekend begins with a youth rally at 6:30 p.m. Friday night.

An open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, and a special service with guest speaker, the Rev. Don Goldsmith, will be held at 6:30 p.m Saturday.

Goldsmith will also lead the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday. A fellowship dinner will be held following the service. Sunday night at 6 p.m. Goldsmith will also lead the evening service. For more information about these services, call 684-3743.
