PARIS – Trinity Church, Route 117, South Paris, has expanded its Sunday schedule with the addition of a worship gathering that is new and planned with first-time worshippers in mind. The first service was held on Sept. 19.

Several things are different about the gathering. For one, it meets every Sunday at 5:31 p.m. Also the music is of contemporary styles such as light rock, folk, country and Celtic, and is led by the band Plainsong.

Bible passages are shared in a modern language. And the people participate in ways ranging from discussing movie clips, to making a craft, to writing down prayer requests, to interacting with the pastor during the message for the day.

One year in the planning process, the new worship gathering (called Fill the Whole) is meant to include those who have little or no experience with the church, those who have become disengaged from the church and want a fresh start, and those who are unable to worship on Sunday mornings due to busy schedules.

Tom Teichmann, pastor, describes the worship as a “worship experiment” because, “we will change and adapt the format to meet the needs of those who come. The important part is getting together to remember God’s love for us. Tradition gives us the words and ways to do that – but there’s plenty of room for new expression, too.”

The gathering lasts 30 to 45 minutes, and refreshments are available to take the edge off hunger. The worship is held in the church’s community room, so a cup of coffee can be brought. Children of all ages are welcome to participate. People are invited to dress as they feel most comfortable.
