Intermediate Bellydancing: Starts Tuesday, Oct. 5, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., runs Oct. 5, 12, 26 and Nov. 2. Lisa Cummings will facilitate. Dress comfortably in workout clothing. Stocking or bare feet are preferred. At the d’Youville Pavilion Dining Room. Cost, $40.
Bellydancing Aerobics: Starts Tuesday, Oct. 5, from 7:30 to 8:15 p.m., runs Oct. 5, 12, 26 and Nov. 2. The class will focus on a deep muscle and cardiovascular workout. Some familiarity with bellydancing movements is helpful, but not required. The class is specifically designed for an aerobic workout. Lisa Cummings will facilitate. Helping Families Cope: When the Diagnosis is Cancer: Thursday, Oct. 14, at 6:30 p.m., part of the Successful Aging Series. What can families do to support their loved ones and also manage their own fears and stress? Cheesy Noise Maker Night at the MAINEiacs: Friday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. Bring a box of mac and cheese and attend the Lewiston MAINEiacs vs Gatineau Olympiques hockey game. Murder Mystery Dinner Theater: Saturday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. Mystery for Hire presents its murder mystery dinner theater production of “Politics Can Be Murder” at Lost Valley Lodge. The murder mystery takes place at a political debate for a hotly-contested Senate seat. Audience members are encouraged to take notes as they watch the mystery unfold. When a crime takes place, they become amateur detectives who try to figure out “whodunit?” At the end of the evening, the person who most correctly guessed who did the crime is the “super sleuth” of the evening. Tickets are discounted for Club W! members and their guests at $32.95 a person, which includes a full buffet, mystery show, tax and gratuity.
Date Night: Romantic Harvest Picnic: Sunday, Oct. 17, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thorncrag naturalist Susan Hayward will lead a short walk along the paths of the sanctuary. The walk will end at the top for a sunset view of the White Mountains, then to the Anthony fireplace where there will be a picnic basket filled with goodies and a blanket to sit on. Following the picnic, there will be a quiet walk in the gathering dusk to listen for the sounds of owls. Meet at the sanctuary gate at the end of East Avenue. $30/couple.
Support Group for Infant Death and Pregnancy Loss: Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. St. Mary’s introduces a new program for individuals, couples, family and friends who have experienced a pregnancy loss or infant death. The group offers a safe and supportive environment where people can share their feelings associated with loss, find answers to difficult questions, seek comfort in others with similar experiences and better understand the grieving process. The group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Potvin Room at St. Mary’s. Tammy Brule and Leanne Langlois, certified perinatal grief support specialists, facilitate. The free program is made possible by the Colby Fund.
Breast Health Now: Thursday, Oct. 28, at 5:30 p.m. Part of the Entrees to Health Series. Join Drs. Jeffrey Leftwich and Marsha O’Rourke for a discussion on breast health. Learn about the role of diet and exercise in preventing breast cancer, new diagnostic measures and new treatments. O’Rourke and Leftwich will answer questions on the role of estrogen, family history and other risk factors.
