PHILLIPS – It’s time once again for all scarecrows to assemble for the 13th annual Scarecrow Reunion on Main Street on Saturday, Sept. 25. Judging will take place at 10 a.m. that day. Stakes will be in place earlier that week.
Scarecrows should be left attached to their stakes, weather conditions permitting, until and through Oct. 10, giving visitors two weekends for viewing.
Scarecrows need to be made weather proof and be able to withstand rain and heavy winds. Nearby street lights make the scarecrows visible day and night to the thousand-plus visitors who come every year.
Advance registration is required. Entries must fall in one of four categories: adult, children, family and groups such as Scouts, nursery schools, churches.
Ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third in each group. Cash prizes will be awarded if there is enough interest.
Registration is $5 and may be paid at Phillips Hardware Co. For more information, contact Winona Davenport at 639-4296 who, with the help of Dana and Sharon Dudley, organizes the event for the Phillips Conservation Commission. Last year 27 scarecrows attended the reunion.
