LEWISTON – Brett Mower recently visited Dr. Douglas Henry at Optometric Associates for a full eye examination. Mower was identified as needing an exam following a vision screening at Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care.
Henry provided training for the Head Start Health Team and the Home-Based Home Visitors in the fall of 2003. The training allowed staff to perform more comprehensive vision screenings. Children who were identified as needing an eye exam were referred to local eye doctors.
Mower is now wearing his glasses full time.
Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care, a United Way funded and Lewiston and Auburn CDBG supported agency, has provided child development services to families of preschool children for more than 38 years. The programs are provided to more than children and families throughout Androscoggin County.
All Head Start programs are free to eligible children, and full-day child care is available on a sliding fee scale for parents who are working, in school or participating in job training.
Applications for all programs are accepted throughout the year. Call 795-4040, ext. 25, for more information or to set up an appointment.
