LEWISTON – Central Maine Medical Center’s Health and Wellness Services will offer the following programs beginning Sept. 13:
Advanced Back Breakers Class: Review skills and increase core strength from gains made in the beginner class. Pilates- and yoga-style movements for greater strength. Exercises on the physio-ball. Tuesdays and Thursday from noon to 12:30 p.m.
Beginner Back Breakers Class: Learn to increase core strengths, prevent injury, improve the strength of abdominal and low back muscles and trim a couple of inches from the midsection. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 1 p.m.
Cardio-Kickboxing A fast-paced class based on traditional kicking and punching techniques choreographed into combinations that challenge and strengthen the body. Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m.
Functional Pilates: The program teaches breathing, movement, balance, coordination, body positioning, strength and flexibility through traditional Pilates moves. It also incorporates free weights, functional moves and band work for total body tone. Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 6:45 p.m.
Functional Training: The class offers endurance and resistance training for the upper and lower body, working the body as an integrated unit, resulting in overall strength that carries into everyday activities. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 a.m.
Healthy Lifestyle Changes: The six-week class gives participants the foundation for leading a healthy life. It includes a pre- and post-class objective measurement tool, six educational classes and 12 exercise sessions with a personal health counselor. Participants will establish personal nutritional and exercise goals. A health risk assessment is available. Classes will be held on Mondays beginning at 5 p.m.
Personal Fitness: Begins with a one-on-one evaluation and program development session with a personal health counselor, then progresses to a structured group exercise plan. Tuesday and Thursdays from 8 to 9 a.m., 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. or 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Saturday Aerobics: A combination of step and a circuit based on the needs of the class. An aerobics class based on the area of the body participants want to work for the day. Saturdays from 8 to 9:30 a.m.
Step Aerobics: A heart-pumping, muscle-moving and grooving workout. Alternates step with muscle work using weights, tubing. A cardio workout and head-to-toe body strengthener. Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Wellness for Life: The special exercise and wellness class is designed for people with cancer, whether in treatment or post-treatment. A personal health counselor will instruct the class while participants work gently to increase range of motion, flexibility and energy levels. Sessions include a 30-minute group exercise and 30 minutes of instruction in a variety of mind-body-spirit techniques, including nutrition, meditation and stress management. Participants work together in a supportive, noncompetitive group atmosphere. Spouses, caregivers and family members are welcome. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m.
Yoga: The program welcomes participants to the world of relaxation and rejuvenation through yoga. Classes focus on teaching centering and balancing through poses, breathing exercise, meditation and relaxation. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Tuesdays from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m.
