LEWISTON – The Maine People’s Alliance is a nonprofit, multi-issue, citizen action organization with 22,000 members. The purpose is to involve citizens in democracy and to strengthen individual participation in decision-making processes that affect lives. The organization maintains offices in Portland, Lewiston and Bangor.

Statewide, the alliance has registered 10,000 individuals to vote within the past few months. Locally, 1,600 individuals have been registered to vote in Androscoggin County.

Volunteers are needed to assist with a wide array of activities from collating materials to dropping off literature door-to-door to individuals recently registered to vote through the alliance. The alliance announces the following events:

Friday, Oct. 1, alliance annual second congressional district dinner; Saturday, Oct. 2, distribution of “Vote From Home” information (absentee ballots); Wednesday, Oct. 6, Androscoggin Valley Chapter meeting from 6 to 8 p.m., Lewiston office.

Tuesday, Nov. 2, election day; Wednesday, Nov. 3, Androscoggin Valley Chapter meeting from 6 to 8 p.m., Lewiston Office; Monday, Dec. 1, Androscoggin Valley Chapter meeting from 6 to 8 p.m., Lewiston office.
