PARIS – The annual Painting a Maine Garden event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at the McLaughlin Foundation, 97 Main St., South Paris.
There will be painting demos by Pat Chandler of Norway, Penny Clark Lumpkins of Brownville, Polly Hayton of Bridgton, John Marshall of Denmark, C.C. Philips of Newcastle and Lois Strickland of Pownal. Marilyn Burnell and Kristine Prada will give tips on garden photography. Davis Smith of Readfield will install copper and bronze garden sculptures. Vicky Rogers will facilitate a kid’s art tent and Susan Butler will offer a black print workshop.
A $5 donation is requested for demo participants.
Guest preacher
PARIS – Dr. Ernest Cassara will be the speaker at the 10 a.m. service Sunday, June 22, at the First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris.
Cassara is professor emeritus of history at George Mason University, the state university of Northern Virginia at Fairfax, where he served as chairman of the Department of History. Among his writings are “Hosea Ballou: The Challenge to Orthodoxy” and “Universalism in America: A Documentary History of a Liberal Faith.” Cassara is an active member of the New Massachusetts Universalist Convention. Music will be under the direction of Forest Perkins, church organist.
A coffee hour will follow in Good Cheer Hall. Everyone is welcome.
Photo workshop
PARIS – A photography workshop for children with Skip Churchill will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, June 24 to 27, at the McLaughlin Foundation, 97 Main St. Participants will learn 35 mm photographic principles and techniques from a professional. The program is geared at first- to fifth-graders. The fee is $40 for all four sessions plus a $20 lab fee. Pre-registration is required by Saturday, June 21. Call 743-8820.
4-H scholarship
PARIS – The Oxford County 4-H program will be setting up a special Evelyn Mason Camping Scholarship fund in memory of the long-time volunteer. Anyone interested in donating to this fund can make checks payable to the Oxford County Leader’s Association and send it to the Extension Office at 9 Olson Road, South Paris, ME 04281.
Each year the Oxford County Leader’s Association will award an Evelyn Mason Camping Scholarship to a 4-H member in Oxford County.
Mothers’ group
NORWAY – MOM’s Gatherings (Meeting Other Moms) will meet from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. the third Thursday of the month for June, July and August at Fare Share Commons on Main Street. A $1 donation is requested for use of the space. For more information, call Marty Elkin at 212-4058.
