LEWISTON – The Lewiston Parks and Recreation Department recently sent greetings to Master Sgt. Marc Cyr of Auburn and accompanying military personnel who are serving in Tikrit, Iraq.
Cards of encouragement were made by attendees at Camp Smiles, the recreation playground and the Multi-Purpose Center Playground.
Cyr was the only member of the 167th Combat Support Group based out of Londonderry, N.H., chosen to head to Iraq in February.
Lewiston Recreation Department personnel who headed the effort were Jake Theberge, director of Camp Smiles; Cyr’s niece, Amanda Kyajohnian, director of playgrounds; and Eric Nelson, assistant director of Camp Smiles.
Kyajohnian said, “It was exciting for the children to know that they would be bringing some sunshine into the lives of military personnel clear around the world.”
