LEWISTON – Arthur C. “Art” Dunlap of Poland was recently appointed to the Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District board of supervisors.
Dunlap, who has served for the last year as an associate supervisor, was appointed to fill the position vacated by Clinton Fox. Dunlap will serve until January, when an election will be held.
Born in Farmington and raised in Auburn, Dunlap has worked for the town of Poland as code enforcement officer since 1998. He holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maine and has taken several additional undergraduate and graduate courses in business.
Dunlap has assisted with insurance inspections, performed duties as a third party inspector for the manufactured housing industry and was certified as a residential building inspector prior to becoming the CEO for Poland.
Previously, Dunlap was in the broadcast industry. He started working for Maine Public Broadcasting, moved to chief engineer and manager of Karlen Communications, a common carrier microwave service all over northern New England, and served as the mountain supervisor for Channel 8 on Mt. Washington. Throughout his tenure he was in charge of the electronics, the generation of power, the physical plants and property management.
As CEO, Dunlap has seen rapid growth in Poland in recent years, stating, “People want to go to the country. We have a beautiful town, with several lakes. People like what they see.”
John Hemond, chairman of the district’s board of supervisors, said, “Art’s experience in municipal governance and planning strengthens the conservation district. We are very pleased that he is willing to serve.”
