TURNER – The Turner Museum and Historical Association will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Turner Town Office. The guest speaker will be Ben Conant, genealogist and historian. The public is welcome.

Bean supper

NEW SHARON – The Women’s Society of the New Sharon United Methodist Church will serve a public baked bean and casserole supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Apirl 26. The menu also includes molded salads, chop suey, coleslaw, homemade rolls, pies and coffee. The cost is $6 for adults and $2 for children.

County council

LIVERMORE FALLS – The American Legion Androscoggin County Council Auxiliary will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at American Legion Post 10. It had been previously announced for Lisbon on May 11. Because this would have been Mother’s Day, it was canceled.

Dirigo Girls State applicants will be guests with their parents at a Girls State Tea at 2 p.m. The girls are selected from schools in Androscoggin County. A county meeting will follow.

The county post members will meet at 2 p.m. at Murray Hall to elect officers. Installation will be held for Legion and Auxiliary at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at New Auburn American Legion Post 153.

District 9 VFW

LEWISTON – VFW Post 9150 and auxiliary will host the District 9 convention starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at the Elks Lodge on outer Lisbon Street. Posts from Auburn, Jay, Greene, Lisbon, South Paris, Rumford, Canton and Lewiston make up the district. A short Loyalty Day program will be held.

Auxiliaries will remain at the Elks Lodge for a meeting and election while the posts will hold their session at the Lisbon Post. Installation of both units will be held in Lisbon at 3:45 p.m. A ham supper will be provided.

Illustrated talk

WILTON – Richard Carey gave an illustrated talk on his travels at a recent meeting of the Wiltona Women’s Club at the home of Barbara Hathaway. Luncheon and dessert were served to the 16 members attending. Plans for luncheon at LaFleur’s were made with members assembling at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the United Methodist Church for carpooling.

Hathaway donated a tree to be planted on town office property on Arbor Day, Friday, April 25. A bench and window box will be arranged at the entrance to the building. The Loonmania project was discussed. Wal Mart will match money raised with 50 percent going to the club and 50 percent to the project, “Community Improvement Awareness for 2003.”

Preschool training

WILTON – A 30-hour training course on preschool development and curriculum for family chld care is ibeing sponsored by Finders/Seekers Childcare Resource Development Center. There will be 10 sessions starting May 6 running through June 5, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at Community Concepts Franklin County Head Start at 284 Main St. For more information or to register, call Andrea at 1-800-543-7008.
