AUGUSTA – Wanda Kilgore, Norway, received the Gold Star Honorable Service Medal and Silver Star Honorable Service Medal for her son, Sgt. Corey A. Dan, who was killed in action on March 13, 2006, in Ramadi, Iraq.

Kilgore was presented the medals in the Hall of Flags by Gov. John Baldacci and Maine Adjutant General William Libby in a ceremony to honor the 18 soldiers from Maine who have been killed in action since Sept. 11, 2001.

The medals were presented to the mothers or wives as representatives of the families who have lost a loved one.

The accompanying certificate proclaims the medals for Sgt. Dan are “in recognition of his honorable service in the Armed Forces of our country. He has made the ultimate sacrifice, and we the citizens of the state of Maine express our sincere appreciation for this courage, his willingness to serve our state and nation, and his commitment to the defense of freedom. With great pride and deep sorrow, we honor him, and we honor you for your sacrifice.” Signed by Gov. Baldacci and Gen. Libby.
