WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Olympia J. Snowe, R-Maine, met with Maine high school students participating in Boys and Girls Nation. Elliot Munn of Norway, Charles Silsby of Ellsworth, Savannah Lodge-Scharff of Eliot and Emily Shanay of Scarborough attended the weeklong program.

“I enjoyed meeting with Elliot, Charles, Savannah and Emily during their visit to the Capitol,” said Snowe. “I believe it is important for Maine students to see the day to day operation of the federal government firsthand. It is through programs like Boys and Girls Nation, and the unique opportunities they provide, that future leaders are born and a commitment to American values is preserved.”

Boys and Girls Nation offers high school students an opportunity to attend a week-long government and citizenship program in Washington. The program is dedicated to educating participants on the role of the federal government while developing their leadership skills.
