BOSTON, Mass. – Amanda Katherine Damon, daughter of Livermore residents Dave and Kate Damon, has been accepted to the Peace Corps.

Damon will depart for Bolivia on Jan. 18 to work in Agriculture Extension. Damon’s work will include providing direct technical assistance and training to small-scale farmers, ranchers, rural agricultural associations and non-governmental organizations. She will also work to improve crop reproduction and animal husbandry practices.

A 1998 graduate of Hebron Academy, Damon attended Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y., graduating in 2002 with a BA in English literature.

Damon previously volunteered with a Nazareth farm in West Virginia, working on the construction of various buildings in low-income neighborhoods.

Damon, an avid field-hockey player, said her love of travel and desire to make a difference has motivated her to join the Peace Corps. Commenting on her inspiration to become a volunteer, Damon said, “At the most basic level I want to dedicate myself to a higher cause.”
