BUCKFIELD – The annual town meeting is returning to Saturday this year, selectmen decided Tuesday night. It will be held at 9 a.m. June 20.
Town Manager Glen Holmes said although the meetings have been held Wednesday nights the last few years, there was interest by residents to go back to Saturdays.
Elections will be Tuesday, June 16, and nomination papers may be picked up after March 23.
Members of the Budget Committee met with the board to discuss their spending recommendations for 2009-10.
Dick Piper said he is willing to meet with Buckfield, Sumner and Hartford selectmen to discuss the state site location and development law and rule changes. Holmes said Piper had attended the recent workshop and would be happy to discuss the projected changes. Piper said these changes, if enacted, would have considerable impact on land development.
The board was informed of new guidelines for General Assistance that take effect April 1, as part of the federal Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act recently signed by President Barack Obama.
