BUCKFIELD – John Lowell won the four-way race for selectman this week with 448 votes.
Perley Lovejoy received 311, Roger Bennett 142 and Alan Young 148.
Lowell will finish the three-year term of Oscar Gammon who died in October.
He has worked for L.L.Bean in Freeport for 15 years. He and his wife, Mary, operate an apple, cherry and pear farm.
“I think this job will be a learning experience for me and I look forward to taking the Maine Municipal Association training for town officials. I see issues that need addressing, and I would like to see the board take a look at the strengths and weaknesses of the town government and decide what direction the town needs to go,” he said
Town Manager Glen Holmes said he had spoken with Lowell a few weeks ago and was impressed with his critical thinking and concerns for the town.
