BUCKFIELD – More than 100 people marched and rode in the Labor Day parade here Monday, watched by many more lining the route.
Decorated floats were showcased by the Boy Scouts of America, East Sumner Bible Church and Lowell Lumber. There were also entries by Pine Tree Garden Party, the American Legion and Jed Clampett and his gang from “The Beverly Hillbillies.”
Several groups marched with their flags such as the Hartford Historical Society and the Pine Tree Campground ladies in vintage gowns made by Ann Berry of West Gardener from old tablecloths and curtains.
The Buckfield High School and Leavitt Area High School bands played. There were 12 antique cars and tractors, miniature horses and a carriage.
Fire and rescue units from Buckfield, Sumner, Paris, West Paris and Turner were in the lineup with sirens blaring.
Most all of the Oxford County candidates for public office drove decorated cars with signs and volunteer walkers passed out candy and beads.
After the parade, there were items for sale from the Buckfield Community Church and the Oddfellow Theater, and booths sponsored by the freshman class of Buckfield High School, the Buckfield Historical Society, the Oxford Fair and the Buckfield Music Boosters. A variety of foods were also available, including items from Buckfield firefighters and pies by the Buckfield Community Church.
