NEWRY – Two southern Maine developers have bought the former Black Bear Bed and Breakfast and plan to convert it into a four-unit condominium, they told the Planning Board Wednesday night.
They also want to build two 3,300-square-foot, four-unit condominiums on the property.
The total project, dubbed Sunday River Road Condominiums and constructed in three phases, would cost $1.7 million, according to documents.
Jon Trudo and Leo Menard, who joined to form Newry Redevelopment LLC, bought the nearly 5-acre property at 829 Sunday River Road for $400,000, according to plans presented by Menard.
He learned at the meeting that he didn’t have a shoreland zoning application for the project and that he needed to make enough copies of the project documents for each planner.
Chairman Brooks Morton told Menard to bring the missing documents and copies to the board’s next meeting on Aug. 6, when they would consider the application.
No one at the meeting mentioned the site’s past history. Three women, including the owner of the bed and breakfast, were murdered there over Labor Day weekend 2006.
