HARRISON – A variety of summer events will come to town next week for the four-day Old Home Days celebration.
The midway at Crystal Lake Park opens at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, through Friday, July 11, and hourly raffle drawings will take place beginning at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, July 12, the midway opens at 12:45 p.m. and raffle drawings begin at 6 p.m.
A 50/50 raffle drawing will be held each night of the event at 10:30, and live entertainment will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
At dusk on Wednesday, a fireworks display will be launched from the middle of the lake.
On Thursday, registration for a 5-kilometer road race will take place at the town office from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. The race starts at 7, rain or shine, and prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in seven age categories, the middle of the pack finisher, and the top Harrison resident racer.
The cost to run the race is $16, and proceeds will benefit the town’s recreation department.
On Friday, a junior parade of children ages 12 and under will step off from the United Parish Congregational Church at 6 p.m. and proceed to Long Lake Park. From 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, the Lions Club will hold a lobster and chicken feed at Crystal Lake Park.
The grand parade will proceed from Depot Street to the United Parish Congregational Church on Saturday, stepping off at noon. This year’s theme is Celebrating the Olympics, and Harrison recreation director Paula Holt will be the grand marshal.
The Harrison Old Home Days began in 1923, was discontinued in 1967, and brought back to life in 1977. The event has raised approximately $110,000 in the past 30 years for local organizations.
