PARIS – Longtime Selectman Raymond Glover was unanimously elected chairman by the other four board members Monday night. Voters re-elected him June 10 to his sixth three-year term.

Lloyd “Skip” Herrick, who campaigned with Glover and won a board seat for the first time, was chosen vice chairman.

The meeting was run by Vice Chairman David Ivey because former Chairman Ernest Fitts III did not seek re-election to the board this year and Glover and Herrick were not elected to their leadership posts until the end of Monday’s session.

The other board members are Glen Young and Gerald Kilgore.

In other business, Ivey said town attorney Theodore Kurtz recommended that the board bypass an agenda item to have the town pay legal fees for Fitts and Young.

Fitts and Young are named in an appeal filed by resident Robert Moorehead, who charges the two with a conflict of interest in some of their votes. The item on legal fees was first presented on April 28, and did not receive the majority needed to pass.

According to town bylaws, selectmen may reconsider any decision within 30 days if both the vote to reconsider and action on the article are taken within that time period.

Town Manager Sharon Jackson said she had received concerns that some of American flags recently placed on utility poles were not properly illuminated. Fitts said the flags were put up after he chose poles with representatives from Verizon and Central Maine Power.

Jackson said the flags could be illuminated by lights on adjacent poles.

“I would think if the (American) Legion or VFW isn’t complaining, it’s not an issue,” said Glover.

The board also voted to change the town office hours to 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Jackson said town employees will work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the change will allow them to start and complete their work easier.
