NORWAY – Selectman Les Flanders has completed his review of street lights and his recommendation is simple: Don’t add any; in fact, remove some of them.
Flanders set out last month to review street lights and asked people to call him with requests for more lighting.
The project was prompted by a request in January to selectmen for a street light at the intersection of Crockett Ridge and Korhonen roads. When questions arose about the cost and the need, selectmen decided to table a decision until they could evaluate the town’s street lighting situation. Part of that evaluation was to determine where people feel they need more lighting.
Selectmen reported that not only did no one ask for additional lights, but there were several calls to take street lights out. Selectman Bruce Cook said he received a call saying there were too many street lights on Main Street.
The board approved removing two street lights on Alpine Street, two on Crockett Ridge Road and one on Main Street.
