PARIS – A community supper Saturday aims to help people put oil in their tanks to keep them warm through the winter.

The dinner will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Paris Fire Station on Western Avenue. It will feature spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, a 50-50 drawing, and raffle prizes.

The cost of the dinner is $6, or $3 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children 5 and under. Donations are welcome.

“We’d been thinking about it for a couple of weeks, about what we can do,” Tony Farrar said. Farrar said he came up with the idea for the benefit with his wife.

Heating oil prices fell a penny this week to $3.34 a gallon, but the price is still $1.11 higher than last year’s prices.

“It’s designed to help those who don’t qualify for general assistance,” Town Manager Sharon Jackson said.

Proceeds from the event will go into a fund dedicated solely for fuel assistance. Anyone requesting assistance from the fund can complete an application at the town office. Jackson said the application is the same as for general assistance, but differs from the state’s income guidelines to include more people.

Farrar said he has received donations of No. 2 fuel oil from Dead River, Woodstock Oil and Lampron, as well as a financial contribution from C.N. Brown. He said local businesses have contributed 30 to 35 items to the raffle.

“We really appreciate businesses helping us,” Farrar said.
