PARIS – A man who has amassed a variety of charges across three counties was adamant Friday that he did not commit new crimes in jail.

Norman “Bo” Thompson, 35, of Mexico pleaded not guilty in Oxford County Superior Court to charges of Class C trafficking in prison contraband and Class D criminal mischief.

The charges stem from an October incident when an inspection found Thompson had destroyed an electrical outlet in his cell and kept the metal electrical plate that covered the socket.

“Contraband, by definition, is anything that is not allowed by jail rule,” said Capt. Ernest Martin, administrator of the Oxford County Jail. “And a piece of sharp metal in any form is contraband.”

Martin said Thompson was being segregated from the other inmates at the time of the incident. He has since been integrated into the jail population.

Thompson was given a personal recognizance bail on those particular charges, but is being held without bail on charges of burglary, theft, criminal mischief and violation of conditions of release.

Thompson incurred those charges after a 14-hour standoff with police at his mother’s house in Mexico late last year. He is accused of stealing property from a neighbor there, as well as vehicle thefts in Androscoggin and Franklin counties.

In October, Thompson gained national attention when he was tackled by a Sun Journal photographer in Lewiston while fleeing from police.
