WOODSTOCK – The heavily traveled Old County Road between Bryant Pond village and Route 219 in Greenwood will be closed at Howe’s Crossing today and Tuesday while the St. Lawrence and Atlantic Railroad rebuilds the crossing.
Town Manager Vern Maxfield said the railroad will install new rails and repave the crossing, which sees heavy traffic daily.
“The crossing has needed rebuilding for quite some time, and the railroad has now decided to do extensive repairs there Monday and Tuesday. The crossing will be closed from 6 a.m. Monday until midafternoon Tuesday so people will have to use an alternate route to travel south from Bryant Pond,” he said.
Maxfield said people will use either Route 26 or Greenwood Road between Locke Mills village and Greenwood City village.
Old County Road is popular with people traveling from the Bethel area to Paris, Norway and points south because it is shorter and avoids heavier traffic along Route 26.
